Rimutaka Incline Walkway

What: Bed of old incline (up to 1 in 15) railway run on the centre grip rail (Fell) system. Ran 1878 - 1955. Tunnels. Reasonable fitness required.  Interpreted. 

Where:  Between the upper Hutt Valley and The Wairarapa.

How to get there: Follow SH 2 from Wellington to Kaitoke

How long to allow: (one way) Kaitoke to summit - 10 km - 3 hrs, Summit to Cross Creek 5km - 1.5 hrs (this in the steep bit), Cross Creek to car park 30 minutes. You need to make your own arrangements for collection if going one way.

What else to do there: Fell Engine Museum Featherston. Wineries in the Wairarapa.
