Instructions to authors

The broad range of material appropriate here is the same as NZAA's paper publications: Oceanic archaeology and particularly about New Zealand.

This outlet is particularly suited to data rich publications and reports arising from mitigation archaeology. Papers on CRM practice are particularly welcome. Bibliographies are welcome. Authors of publishable papers are urged to consider NZAA's printed outlets prior to submitting here.

Papers are not refereed. They will be subject to only light editorial oversight, essentially assessing suitability for inclusion.

Authors are urged to have the papers reviewed and proof read by colleagues prior to submission.

Papers should be submitted in a MS Word compatible format with all tables and figures included and inserted in the text at appropriate points. Live hyperlinks are not encouraged other than to the homepages of well established organisations. Hyperlinks to other parts of the NZAA site are not allowed.  There are no other style requirements other than that the paper is in a consistent style and generally complies with academic norms. Multiple author papers will require an agreement of all authors to publication. NZAA will give a publication date when the paper was entered into the paper lists. Papers may not be updated subsequent to this. Updates of bibliographies though are welcome and will be treated as new publications.

Papers may have a cover page added in a house style and will normally be converted to pdf form by the editor before listing on the web site.

Authors should manipulate the graphics in papers to a size in KB suitable for the pages in which they are inserted. Contact the editor for further assistance with this if needed. The right to use illustrations must be obtained by the authors and proof of this may be required. Large papers or papers with many graphics may need  to be broken into several sections for downloading in parts. The editor will do this in discussion with authors.

Listed papers may be withdrawn by the authors at any time. Paper publication elsewhere is not excluded by acceptance here.

Authors wishing to have ISBN numbers in their papers

(these are available for web publications, see http://www.natlib.govt.nz/en/services/5isbnissn.html

and protect copyright must make their own prior arrangements for this and include the necessary information in the paper when it is submitted. Any statements on fair use are the responsibility of authors to add.

Papers will be spidered by search engines, including that used for the NZAA site search. NZAA does not accept any responsibility for the use that may be made of papers by others.

NZAA's current policy is not to charge for inclusion of papers but it reserves the right to do this in future, but not retrospectively for accepted papers.

The papers will be freely available through the NZAA website on a download basis.

NZAA reserves the right to withdraw papers in future if in its sole judgment it considers their time of currency has passed or for any other reason.

NZAA will endeavour to maintain a stable URL for the paper location but requirements of site design may mean changes could be made in future without notice.
