This field trip will involve walking approximately 3km uphill partly on a tramping track so suitable fitness is required. The trip will be 3-3.5 hours return. The boat will return to Kaiteriteri at about 3.30. A short stop will be made at one of the nearby pā on the way back to Nelson. Providing an opportunity for discussions about the work of the newly convened Māori Advisory Committee for NZAA\, for sharing ideas of Māori participation and priorities in archaeology\, and for whanaungatanga towards a stronger network of Māori interested and involved in archaeology. Then continued on to Ulva Island\, one of New Zealand’s earliest reserves where attendees heard stories of early European settlers\, conservation history\, and enjoyed the results of modern conservation efforts. Other significant landmarks and sites were be pointed out from the vessel during travel. The field trip visited Te Totara Pā\, the Thames School of Mines and the Goldmine Experience. \nThe conference theme commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Thames Goldfield.
