The New Zealand Archaeological Association is working to increase public awareness and highlight the importance of protecting our archaeological heritage by promoting the work of New Zealand archaeologists both at home and abroad.

This will be the fifth New Zealand Archaeology Week. The event has been able to develop and grow due to the wonderful effort and input from the archaeological community, heritage organisations and tangata whenua.

Archaeology Week is going ahead this year with in-person and online events.

Events are listed below, as well as on our NZAA Facebook page and Eventfinda.

NZAA is working with a number of partners to develop and share content on our social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Look out for the hashtag #NZArchaeologyWeek!

If you have any content you’d like to share as part of the week, please get in touch with either Laura Dawson (archaeologyweek@nzarchaeology.org) or Patricia Pillay (patriciapillay64@gmail.com). Or share the content via your own social media, using the hashtag #NZArchaeologyWeek

The New Zealand Archaeological Association has some funds available to assist organisations with the costs associated with running Archaeology Week events, such as printing costs, venue hire, etc. Funding applications should be sent to the NZAA Secretary at secretary@nzarchaeology.org by 31 March 2021. Applications should include a short description of your event and a description of the costs for which funding is sought. Applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been successful the following week.
