Puhoi Cottage display
For Archaeology Week find out more about Puhoi Cottage and the Schischka family, who used the cottage as their bach for 70 years.
In December 2011, Auckland Council Heritage Unit archaeologists excavated beside the cottage. They found many treasures, including a sinker and a grinder thought to be 300-400 years old, evidence of a Māori cooking structure, and thousands of nails from a Pākehā boatbuilding yard. They also discovered hundreds of items thrown out by the Schischka family from the late nineteenth century onwards.
This Archaeology Week display is on level 2 of Auckland Central City Library. In display cases by the escalators.
