Kia ora koutou,
The Journal of Pacific Archaeology began in 2010 and since then has published 27 issues. We are grateful for the ongoing support of the wider community of archaeologists working in the region, especially the past editors, our layout editor Les O’Neil, past business managers, and the editorial board. We are especially grateful for our authors and reviewers; without whose sharing of research and expertise we would have no journal. Unfortunately, in recent years we have experienced a decline in subscriptions, submissions, and review acceptance. This decline is global; across academic communities and disciplines, and reflects changing expectations regarding academic publication, particularly accessibility.
With this in mind, we are pleased to announce the Journal of Pacific Archaeology is now a Diamond Open Access journal. This means there are no fees for authors to publish the articles and that all articles are open access as soon as they are published. All previously published papers are now freely available online with no embargo. In line with these changes JPA has also moved to an online-only publication, meaning that Vol 14 Issue 1 is the last print issue.
A number of improvements have also been made to bring the journal in line with contemporary publishing standards, including the inclusion of DOI for all past and future articles and ORCID. If you have previously published with us please consider linking your ORCID profile, instructions for which can be found here. There are also a few new requirements for publication in the journal, including the use of a template for the accepted paper. Please see Information for Authors and Author Guidelines for more information. We are committed to the success of the Journal in this new format and encourage your participation and support as contributors, reviewers, and readers.
Ngā mihi,
Rebecca Phillipps (Editor)
