A guided walk up the Tararu Valley (Victoria Street extension). Following the old tramway route (partly, now the road) participants will visit the sites of the following stamper batteries; Bleazard’s reduction works, Brown and Campbells, Flora McDonalds, Russell’s, Wild Missouri, and the Sylvia battery.
Start / End point: Dickson Holiday Park car park, Victoria Street Tararu Thames
Contact: Russell Skeet [Guide], Mob: 0274 917860
Route: Victoria Street extension road and return. 5 k’s return on a narrow unsealed road with a stream crossing – your feet will be wet after which the return walk to the end point is 2.5k. The route is on a (sometimes) busy road so care will be needed, walking single file on the stream-side of the road.
Gear: Good hiking footwear is recommended, as is water, the application of sunblock, and suitable clothing for outdoor activities on a sunny and hot day. Walking poles would be useful for the stream crossing. Bring a hearty snack, and your mobile phone in case of emergency.
Participants are limited to 12. Booking required.
Cost: $10, including a 16 page illustrated A4 booklet.
