In conjunction with the Echo Walks Festival.
Guide/narrator: Dave Wilton
Start/finish point: DoC Kauaeranga Visitors Centre (KVC) – approx 7 km from Thames on Kauaeranga Valley Rd (signposted from the BP Station on southern outskirts of Thames).
Route: The tour will commence at the KVC with a short brief and visit to the model kauri driving dam, about 15 mins walk each way. (It is hoped to arrange a tripping of the dam but TBC.) We will then drive up the valley to visit logging-related sites such as the Billygoat Incline, main tramway, main booms and tramway bridge site at Hoffmans Pool. Sites related to the Thames water race (1870s) will also be pointed out. Return to KVC and disperse.
Drive between sites (own vehicles required). Easy walks of about 15 minutes each, all on flat.
Cost: Donation (will go to Coromandel Heritage Trust)
Numbers: no limit.
