LEOTC Programme – Chinese Archaeology

Bookings required. Available throughout the school calendar

Shantytown Heritage Park, West Coast or offsite West Coast locations are negotiable

Student fees from $14.00

After the success of the well-received Chinese Archaeology programme in 2017, the Shantytown based Education Centre is again set to host ‘Digs’ as part of their 2018 Archaeology themed programme.

Visiting classes will experience the thrill of a mock ‘Dig’ in Shantytown’s Chinatown where relics from the past are uncovered, classified and recorded for stratigraphic profiles of the site. Students will be asked to discuss the objects found and build on clues to predict and reveal further information about the many people of the past who have lived, worked or travelled through the site. The Marsden Valley Education Centre hopes that the exposure to Archaeology will eventually lead to schools initiating their own local ‘Digs’ to allow students to inquire and learn more about their own communities.

This programme is a full day of hands on activities which can be adapted down for junior students or up for senior and secondary groups.
