Dr Karen Greig will give a public lecture on Coastal erosion of archaeological sites in New Zealand

By international standards New Zealand has a relatively short history. Yet our archaeological landscape is extraordinarily rich and diverse. The archaeological sites that make up this landscape tell the unique story of our past; the changing relationship between people and the land from first Polynesian landfall, to the modern industrial age. Unfortunately, this record is predominantly located in the coastal environment where it is increasingly at risk from the effects of climate change. This presentation will discuss why New Zealand’s coastal archaeological sites are so important, and how we can address the challenges arising from the impacts of climate change.

Central Hawkes Bay Settlers Museum, 23 High Street , Waipawa

4 May at 6pm

All welcome!
