Five short (10mins each) illustrated talks on archaeology and history in Wellington: ·

• Victoria Grouden: “Te Whanganui-a-Tara Reclamation Treasures”. Results of excavation for seismic strengthening underneath the Wellington Town Hall auditorium.
• Bruce McFadgen: “Triffid in an archaeological context” This talk will be about Triffid, and how it applies to the stereophotograpic recording of archaeological excavations.
• Sarah Dugdale: “Getting on track: the archaeology of Wellington’s Railyards’. An overview of the archaeology related to three separate nineteenth century railway stations uncovered in Wellington’s Railyards over the last year – including engine sheds, a weighbridge, refreshment room crockery and lots of drainage systems!
• Elizabeth Cox: “The Thomas Ward Map, 1892 “ This enormous set of maps, made up of 88 A1 sheets, stretches from Thorndon to Berhampore, and records every building that existed in Wellington in the early 1890s, plus data about each building and even the positions of every garden shed and outdoor toilet. Historian Elizabeth Cox will discuss some of the things we can see in the map.
• Mary O’Keeffe: “A Capital Death: the Mount Street Cemetery”. Wellington’s Mount Street Cemetery is a little-known aspect of our city’s history. Tucked away beside Victoria University, it contains many interesting stories of the development of our city.
