Join archaeologist Bradean Cheetham for a leisurely walk along the ridges of the Ataturk memorial park. During the walk we will visit the land where Rangitatau, Poito, and Oruaiti pa once stood. As we walk we will discuss the southern coast’s fascinating history of occupation and fortification.
2-3 hours depending on fitness level of the group and time spent observing the sites
Fitness level/access issues: fitness low-moderate (short uphill sections and occasionally rough surfaces). The walk would not be appropriate for those with wheel chairs or walker frames
No limit on numbers
Where to meet: we will meet at the parking lot for the Ataturk memorial park (if parking is not available there more is available in the parking lots around Tarakina bay). We will return to this carpark at the end of the walk
