The 2017 annual conference was held 21st – 24th June at The Civic, Thames. The field trip visited Te Totara Pā, the Thames School of Mines and the Goldmine Experience.

The conference theme commemorated the 150th anniversary of the Thames Goldfield. The themed paper session was dedicated to gold mining in New Zealand (or overseas), kauri logging, general early contact-period industrial archaeology, social aspects of goldfields life (including effects of mining on iwi), and archaeology of the Hauraki-Coromandel region.
