The 2023 New Zealand Archaeological Association Conference will be held in Kirikiriroa, Hamilton from the 4th – 7th July.

As we continue to battle Covid-19, recent weather events across the country and the ongoing impacts of climate change, the term resilience has become more and more common in current discourse. The theme for this year’s conference is therefore Archaeology and Resilience. This broad theme aims to encapsulate a range of topics including, but not limited to

  • Adaptive responses to changing environments and past or future events.
  • Archaeological and heritage perspectives on contemporary issues.
  • Projects that promote collaboration and partnership, Mātauranga Māori and improve the well-being and resilience of communities, sites and places.
  • Cultural heritage and diversity as a source of resilience.
