The 2019 NZAA conference was held in Taupō from 4th July – 7th July. The Taupō conference was exceptionally well attended, the most ever at a NZAA conference. The conference was hosted by Ngāti Tūwharetoa, and held at the Suncourt Hotel and Conference Centre.

Sunday 4 July

Monday 5 July

  • Workshop on whether or not NZAA should become a professional organisation
  • Evening public lecture: Gerard O’Regan; Rock Art in the Central North Island

Tuesday 6 July

  • Field trip – Travelled to Otūkou Marae for a pōwhiri, and
    then to Te Pōrere Redoubt followed by Opotaka, where the iwi guides shared their knowledge of the place.
    Followed by a visit to the Kakaho rock art site. Our visit was generously facilitated by
    the Te Kohera Kakaho Trust and the landowners.
